MYSTERY
IN THE AIR!
By Mark Stuart
Last
month we experienced some intermittent down time from the Hillsdale
tower, which affected the Joslin link. When we climbed the tower
on a sunny Sunday afternoon we didn't expect to find what we did.
Either a winged creature or some other creature unafraid of heights
(unlike us) had visited our equipment and decided to make a snack
out of our cabling and one of our plastic outdoor tool boxes (We
keep a tool box up in the air so that when we forget the basic tools,
we have a backup. Also, we keep chemical pack hand warmers in the
tool box as well so that when we climb in the winter we have them
to keep our little digits warm). Anyhow, the link to Joslin was
completely disconnected and the link to Annawan/Kewanee was almost
cut as well. The mysterious part is that there was no evidence of
any kind to confirm the guilty critter so we are not quite sure
what we are up against. Could it be a mouse, a rat, a racoon, a
hawk, a squirrel, a buzzard, or something even larger? We have one
of those battery powered motion triggered cameras so if we experience
any more trouble we may have to install it to photograph the guilty
party! Until then, be assured that NBS was able to correct the problem
within minutes and we are prepared to defend our Wireless Internet
from any ongoing assault in the future, whether it be cyber, winged,
crawling, or whatever perils jeapordize our signal.
WHAT
COULD IT BE? Call or email
Stephanie with your imaginative idea on what it could have been,
and you could win a free month of Internet!
P.S.
That tool box cost $4.95 to replace, but it won't affect your monthly
bill!
SansDisk Compact Flash Cards sure can take the heat.....and water!
By Kari Hofmann
Lately I've been in a rush to get my domestic chores done and failed
to check my pockets before tossing things into the wash. One of
my compact flash cards for my digital camera had the honor of taking
a trip around the washer and the dryer. When I found it at the bottom
of the dryer I thought for sure it would be ruined. I popped it
into my camera and sure enough it worked! Even the pictures that
I had taken were there!
