While it’s fun to download music, movies etc. there is a cost! Kazza, Limewire, BitTorrent, etc all turn your computer into a server and use up significant resources. This type of activity will degrade the entire network performance, including your neighbors.

Most files shared and downloaded with this type of P2P software are illegal. If you download copy written materials without paying for it.....it’s illegal unless you have special permission. Here are some examples: Downloading a trailer for a movie would be legal. Downloading the full version of the movie without paying for it would be illegal.

When you agreed to the NBS AUP it states you won’t run servers from your connection. When you install and use P2P software, your computer is a server.

Due to the significant impact this software makes on the network we are taking precautions to discard these transmissions across the NBS network. So your Kazza, Limewire, BitTorrent, etc will work for now, however in the near future it will be blocked.

NBS has just added Joslin to our active broadcast locations and are currently adding customers. Additionally, NBS will be activating two more active locations in Cambridge and in Yorktown. This expands our coverage area to most of Henry County. Further, we are starting to deploy our new 900mhz equipment. We already have 900mhz running in Kewanee and are achieving tremendous results through trees and blockage up to 7 or 8 miles, and line of site up to 14 miles. We will be adding 900mhz to Geneseo and Cambridge within the next few weeks which will allow us to offer extended coverage with greater speeds.
